Jason Lescalleet – The Feckless Dreamer

In this release, the first track is called “The Salmon Falls River”. In it, there is the sound of water flowing. Then, there are footsteps, a crash, the rustle of leaves, the cracking of twigs, but soon just the sound of flowing water remains. Occasionally, the chirp of a bird can be heard in the very far distance. There is a low hum that almost makes its way to discernibility, but remains distant and indistinct. A vague sound that almost (but not quite) sounds like the crackling of a campfire can be heard. There is the sound of a person shuffling about briefly. This sound returns again, and the crash of a twig can be heard. Then, the sound of walking on leaves, and after the person stops, the sound of birds becomes more prominent, and the water slightly less so. The person moves again, and small movements are made occasionally, until there is more walking and the sound of the microphone being jostled. Soon, there’s just the sound of water flowing once more, with the occasional bird. There is more movement for a second, and then it halts. The person makes a sound which brings them very close to the flowing water, and it fills the recording. The water cuts out as the sound of footsteps and movement can be heard.

“Under the Bridge” is the name of the second track. There is a jostle of the microphone, and then the sound of water flowing fast. A voice can be heard in the distance, as well as birds. There’s a pattering sound. Then, what sounds like a car moving above the person recording this. Soon, another car. The sound of the cars which continue to move over the recorder is like a woosh, with the sound of moving air being very prominent. Eventually, the sound of the fast-flowing water becomes more apparent, but the cars continue. There is a booming, wooshing sound that lasts for quite a while, the nature of which I cannot discern. The cars continue, as do the birds and the water. There’s the sound of slight movement. The distant sound of music can be heard, with the bass booming. The water becomes more distant. Then, only a long rumble is made out, until after a bit the water and the birds can be heard again. The sound begins a long fade-out that lasts almost a minute, and the track and release are ended.
